Name: Kira Nerys Rank: Major, Bajoran Militia (Starfleet Auxiliary) Born: 2343 Origin: Bajoran Place of Birth: Dakhur Province, Bajor Assignment: station Deep Space Nine Last Ship: not applicable Academy Class: not applicable Originally a member of the Bajoran resistance against the Cardassian occupation since 2355 (age 12) in Shakaar resistance cell under Shakaar Edon. (Now First Minister of Bajor). Upon end of Cardassian occupation of Bajor, Kira became member of Bajoran Militia, and liaison officer to Deep Space Nine under then-Commander Benjamin Sisko. Her strong religious beliefs hold that Sisko is the Emissary of her religion's prophesy. As First Officer, Kira frequently commands Deep Space Nine and has been in command of the U.S.S. Defiant. Kira is frequently embroiled in Bajoran political and religious altercations, including the succession of former Kai Opaka (2369-70), the election of the First Minister (2371), and the negotiations of the peace treaty with the Cardassians brokered by Kai Winn and the now-deceased Vedek Bareil (2371). In 2370, Kira rescued Bajoran resistance leader Li Nalas from a prison camp on Cardassia IV; upon her return, she was temporarily relieved of her post as Bajoran liaison to DS9 and replaced by Li. Kira returned to duty after Li was killed in an operation to retake Deep Space Nine from The Circle (Bajoran terrorist organization). Kira played a pivotal role in exposing Cardassian involvement with The Circle and Bajoran Minister Jaro Essa's attempt at a coup d'etat. In 2371, Kira made first contact with the Founders, mysterious shapeshifting leaders of the Dominion, on an expedition to the Omarion Nebula in the Gamma Quadrant with Security Officer Odo. (see file, Odo). Also in 2371, as the result of a kidnapping, Kira made contact with members of the Cardassian underground movement on Cardassia Prime. On stardate 48467.3, Kira was abducted by Maquis Lieutenant Thomas Riker, who absconded with the U.S.S. Defiant; he was eventually apprehended and Kira returned unharmed. During the recent conflicts (2374) with the Dominion-Cardassian Alliance, Kira acted as Bajoran Liason officer during the brief Cardassian re-occupation of station Deep Space Nine. In late 2374, Kira commanded U.S.S. Defiant (after incapacitation of Captain Sisko) when it led the combined Federation/Klingon/Romulan task force to invade Cardassian territory. Family: Mother, Meru, Father, Toban, Brothers, Rhiyon and Pol, (all deceased); Kira acted as surrogate mother to Kirayoshi O'Brien (born 2373, biological parents Chief Miles Edward O'Brien and wife Keiko O'Brien, then-residents of Deep Space Nine).
